Fun with Joomla

I just took over the setup for a new site for Slater’s Brick Oven Pizza –  formerly known as Great Brook Farms, in Bolton, MA.  The site had been started in Joomla and rather than switch it over to WordPress, I thought I’d take the opportunity to pick up some Joomla knowledge.  It’s becoming apparent that Joomla doesn’t have even close to the functionality or community of users/developers that WordPress has.

The web developer who started the project had chosen the Modulus template from RocketTheme using the Gantry Framework.  For now I’m sticking with that choice, though it is a little frustrating to discover that the template layer doesn’t seem to have much to offer beyond the basic styling of the site. A few of my own CSS files would be preferable at this point, rather than adding on little macros and extensions just to style the basic article level component of Joomla.

Anyway, I’m finding that my Joomla ‘Google-ing’ is turning up a (small) number of Joomla enthusiasts….so I’m going to proceed in the hope that I come to appreciate what Joomla has to offer.
