Another encaustic practice painting. It’s a fun process learning about the properties of the encuastic paint colors. Alizarin Crimson from Enkaustikos® is a transparent color which can be made even more transparent by mixing it with with encaustic medium (which you can make yourself with filtered beeswax and damar resin). Layering a transparent Alizarin Crimson with an opaque color, such as Titanium White, you can create some interesting effects.
Each layer of pigment and wax is fused with heat and if done carefully so that the layers don’t blend, the paint beneath can show through giving the painting some depth.
