Snapchat filters are a blast!  Since we can’t possibly get by with the existing social media tools Snapchat has positioned itself to fill the void.  I know, like me you were probably blissfully unaware of the void and yet now that I’ve installed the app on my phone I’m having quite a bit of fun with it.

Snapchat, otherwise known as Chat 2.0, is essentially a messaging app with some crazy fun features built in.  It includes the basics like voice chat, video and audio notes, and stickers.

Then there’s the fun stuff, starting with Snaps which are photos or videos that self-destruct after they’ve been opened.  So, yes there’s the obvious temptation to have fun with this feature (and so you should), just keep in mind that nothing ever completely disappears from social media, no matter what they say!  Just so you know, if you take a screenshot of someone’s snap then they get notified.

You can also create a Story which is a collection of your chats which can be viewed by your friends for up to 24-hours – then they disappear.  It’s a fun way to chronicle your day and the idea is that these are just quick snaps so no need to overthink or stage anything.

There’s more fun to be had with the filters that can be applied to your snaps – just swipe left and choose one of the overlays to apply to your image.  If you want two filters then keep your finger on the image and swipe left again to add the second one.

The best part is the magnificent and scary things that you can do with your own face using the Snapchat face filters.   While in Snapchat turn the camera and place your finger on your face and hold.  You’ll see a face graph appear, then select and apply one of the filter circles at the bottom of your screen.  If you want to make a little video just hold the filter button for a few seconds and it will animate. Then you can send to friends as a snap or add it to your story.
